The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted strongly to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) assertion that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will continue to govern from jail, stating that only “gangs” operate from inside prison walls.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari asserted that the people of Delhi are celebrating Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, alleging that the AAP chief has brought misery upon the national capital.
“He has dedicated his life to plunging Delhi into despair. Delhi residents are extremely displeased with him, which is why sweets were distributed after his arrest. His government has not accomplished anything positive for Delhi; instead, they have only plundered and enriched themselves. Kejriwal has looted Delhi,” Tiwari told ANI.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday night in connection with a case related to the liquor policy. He became the first sitting chief minister to be incarcerated.
AAP maintained on Friday that Arvind Kejriwal will retain his position as Delhi’s chief minister and will continue to oversee the government’s operations from jail.
The BJP demanded Kejriwal’s resignation on moral grounds, rebuffing AAP’s claims.
“Those who are insisting that they will govern from jail should remember that jails are meant for criminals, not government officials,” remarked Manoj Tiwari.
Additionally, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj asserted that the party stands united behind Arvind Kejriwal and reaffirmed his position as the chief minister.
The BJP’s Sambit Patra accused Kejriwal of corruption and insisted that he is facing the consequences of his actions. He highlighted the judiciary’s refusal to grant relief to Kejriwal and his team, emphasizing the gravity of the charges against them.
In response, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh condemned the BJP’s actions, likening them to an attack on democracy. He cited the arrest of Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and expressed concerns about the erosion of democratic principles.
Amidst these developments, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, publicly read a letter from her husband, asserting his commitment to serving the nation despite his incarceration. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari criticized her, questioning her absence during instances where Kejriwal allegedly reneged on promises and engaged in corrupt practices.
Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest has stirred significant political upheaval, with AAP supporters and allies mobilizing to protest against his detention. The ongoing saga underscores the fraught political landscape in Delhi and the broader ramifications for Indian politics.
