BJP MLA Mahesh Singh Jeena from Salt Faces Legal Action After Altercation with Dehradun Municipal Commissioner
A heated altercation between BJP MLA Mahesh Singh Jeena and Dehradun Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, along with several other civic employees, has resulted in legal repercussions for the politician. The incident occurred on Tuesday, prompting Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to initiate an investigation led by Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from a recent tender process conducted by the civic body, where Jeena’s son’s bid was allegedly rejected. It is claimed that Jeena responded with inappropriate behavior and offensive language, leading to a viral video of the altercation circulating on social media platforms.
Yashpal Singh, secretary of the Municipal Corporation Drivers Association, filed a written complaint with the Dehradun police against Jeena and his supporters. The complaint alleges that the MLA verbally abused municipal employees and senior officials, even threatening violence.
Based on Singh’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against Jeena and others under Sections 147, 186, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code at the Kotwali Nagar police station. These sections pertain to rioting, obstructing public servants, intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace, and criminal intimidation, respectively.
In response to the incident, employees of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) have commenced an indefinite strike, demanding workplace safety and an apology from Jeena. The Uttarakhand cadre of the Indian Administrative Services Association has also condemned the altercation, highlighting the need for respectful conduct in public service environments.
This incident underscores the importance of maintaining professionalism and respectful behavior in all interactions, particularly between elected officials and public servants. It serves as a reminder of the consequences that can arise from inappropriate conduct and the legal recourse available to address such behavior. As the investigation unfolds, it remains imperative for all parties involved to cooperate fully and uphold the principles of accountability and transparency in governance.
