In a major crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and an electrical technician at Kathgodam railway station while they were caught accepting a bribe. The CBI has also launched searches at the residences of both accused and is investigating their assets.
Bribery Case Details
According to reports, a dumper truck had broken a railway crossing barrier in Kathgodam, leading the RPF to file a complaint against the vehicle owner. However, instead of proceeding with legal action, the ASI and technician demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh to prevent the vehicle owner’s arrest and the confiscation of the truck. Eventually, the bribe amount was negotiated down to ₹25,000.
Upon receiving a complaint, the CBI set up a sting operation. On Sunday, when the vehicle owner handed over ₹20,000 to the accused, the CBI team arrived at the scene and caught both the ASI and the technician red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Investigation and Legal Action
Following the arrest, both accused were taken into custody and a case was registered against them. On Monday, they were presented before the court and subsequently sent to jail. Additionally, the CBI has begun searching their residences and investigating their properties to uncover any illicit assets.
This incident underscores the ongoing corruption challenges within the railway department and the proactive efforts of investigative agencies to root out malpractices. Further updates on the case will follow as the investigation progresses.
