BJP Accusations
“The water crisis in Delhi has been created by the Delhi government… The MLAs of AAP are selling water. If the AAP government had repaired the leakage system on time, the public of Delhi would not have to face a water crisis,” stated Sachdeva.
Residents are currently seen using pipes to fill their containers from water tankers, a common sight during the scorching summer in New Delhi. Sachdeva emphasized that had the water leakage issues been resolved earlier, the current situation could have been avoided.
AAP’s Response
In response to these allegations, Delhi Water Minister Atishi inspected the Wazirabad water treatment plant along with Delhi Jal Board officials. During the inspection, Atishi blamed the Haryana government for not releasing adequate water into the Yamuna River, which she claimed has led to the water shortage in Delhi.
“… Water from here is sent to many water treatment plants. No water is being released into the Wazirabad barrage. The water level has gone so low that now the river bed is visible… We can just appeal to the Haryana government to solve the problem being faced by the people of Delhi,” Atishi said.
She further explained that the Munak Canal is receiving very little water, and the Wazirabad barrage is receiving none. Atishi made an emotional appeal to the Haryana government, emphasizing the dire situation faced by Delhi residents.
Political War of Words
The water crisis has ignited a heated exchange between the AAP and BJP. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of deliberately creating the water crisis to undermine the AAP government. Singh claimed that BJP members were conspiring to worsen the water situation in Delhi.
“The BJP people are trying their best to put Delhi in a water crisis by whatever means, whatever conspiracies, whatever methods they could,” Sanjay Singh asserted.
Broader Implications
The ongoing water crisis in Delhi is not just a political issue but a critical problem affecting millions of residents. With the rising summer temperatures, the demand for water has surged, intensifying the crisis. The situation highlights the urgent need for coordinated efforts and sustainable solutions to address the water scarcity in the capital.
The blame game between the BJP and AAP continues to escalate as residents suffer from severe water shortages. While the BJP accuses the AAP government of mismanagement and corruption, AAP points fingers at the Haryana government and alleges BJP’s conspiracy. Amidst these political tussles, the people of Delhi await effective measures to resolve the water crisis and ensure a steady supply of this essential resource.
