In a heartwarming incident at Terminal 2 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Dr. Priya performed a successful CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on a senior citizen, attributing her timely presence to “God’s will.”
The Incident
Dr. Priya, who was returning from the Amarnath Yatra, was at the airport’s food court area when she noticed an elderly man collapsing nearby. Describing the moment to ANI, she said, “Firstly, no one can take God’s place. We are able to do any work only with His signals. Our flight had been delayed, and we were at the food court when we saw an elderly man suddenly fall.”
Quick Response
Upon witnessing the collapse, Dr. Priya and her husband, Dr. Ramakant Goel, rushed to the scene where they found the man unresponsive with no pulse. They were joined by another doctor couple. Dr. Priya explained, “When we reached him, a doctor couple was already there. We found that he was unresponsive, his heartbeat had stopped, and there was no pulse at all. We immediately performed CPR, and within about five minutes, he turned responsive. His breathing and pulse had started.”
The video of Dr. Priya administering CPR went viral on social media, earning her widespread appreciation for her quick and effective actions.
Outcome
After continuous CPR, the senior citizen’s condition stabilized, and his pulse and saturation improved. Dr. Priya, a Duty Medical Officer (DMO) at the Ajmer Railway Hospital, remained with the patient until airport staff arrived. “We later checked his pulse and saturation, and it was better,” she added.
Praises and Recognition
Vasudev Devnani, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan, lauded Dr. Priya’s actions on social media, stating, “Her wisdom and courageous act will bring awareness. If CPR is given within five to six minutes of a heart attack, the patient’s life can be saved, and he can be taken to a hospital on time.”
Importance of CPR
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a critical life-saving technique performed during cardiac arrest when the heart stops beating or beats too ineffectively to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs. This incident underscores the importance of knowing and administering CPR promptly to save lives in emergencies.
