Elections in more than 80 countries in 2024. Why India’s election is the biggest

Nearly 970 million people, or over 10 per cent of the global population, were eligible to vote in India’s general elections, which began with the initial phase on 19 April and lasted until 1 June. Of this, 642 million cast their ballot. This massive undertaking, the largest in the world, spanned 44 days, and it will culminate in the announcement of the results today
