Gunfire Erupts in Dehradun’s Pondha Area: Two Arrested, Five Still at Large

Dehradun’s Pondha area in Premnagar witnessed another shocking incident of gunfire as a student gang opened fire on a fellow student following a dispute. Several bullets hit the victim’s car, but he managed to escape unhurt. The Dehradun police have registered an FIR against seven individuals and arrested two, while a search is on for the remaining accused.

Incident Details

According to SSP Ajay Singh, the incident occurred late at night on March 24 and 25. The victim, Manas Yadav, a native of Alwar, Rajasthan, resides in Power and Banking Society in Pondha on rent and is a BA LLB student at a local university.

Manas told the police that he was standing in his flat’s balcony when a group of students, including Krish Panwar, Suryansh Chawla, Mansvi Pandit, Harivansh, and a few unidentified men, arrived in separate vehicles. The group started hurling abuses at him, and when he came downstairs to confront them, they opened fire. Several bullets struck his car, causing significant damage, but he managed to escape unharmed.

Police Action & Arrests

After receiving information through the police control room, officers rushed to the scene, but the attackers had already fled. Based on Manas Yadav’s complaint, the police registered a case and launched a manhunt.

On Wednesday, March 27, the police arrested Mansvi Farasi, a resident of Bidhauli, and Harivansh Magluria, a resident of Thade Kalwal village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, from the Kandoli-Bidhauli road. A country-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from them.

What Led to the Firing?

During interrogation, Harivansh Magluria revealed that he is a second-year B.Com (Hons) student at the same university. He stated that the conflict started when Manas Yadav and his friends had an altercation with Krish Panwar, which escalated into a physical fight. Allegedly, Manas and his group assaulted Krish Panwar and even threatened to kill him.

To take revenge, Krish Panwar, Harivansh, and their friends planned an attack on Manas. When they spotted Manas standing on his balcony, they opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Frequent Gunfire Incidents in Bidhauli

The Bidhauli-Pondha area has become a hotspot for such violent incidents. With several educational institutions, hostels, and PG accommodations, thousands of students live in the area, and disputes often lead to violent clashes. Gun violence has become alarmingly common, with dozens of shooting incidents reported over the last two years.

Authorities have taken action by debarring several students from universities and colleges for involvement in such activities. However, the rising number of firearm-related cases highlights the urgent need for stricter security measures in the region.

Ongoing Investigation

The hunt for the remaining five accused is still underway, and police are conducting raids in multiple locations. The case has once again raised concerns about student gang violence and the easy availability of illegal firearms in Dehradun. Authorities are now under pressure to tighten security in student-dominated areas and prevent further escalation of such violent incidents.
