Abdul Malik, the mastermind of the Haldwani riots and violence, has been apprehended from Delhi, and interrogation is currently underway after his arrival in Haldwani. So far, the police have arrested five individuals, which includes the brother of a Samajwadi Party leader. The sensitive area has been surrounded by police, paramilitary forces, and the Rapid Action Force from all sides.
According to media reports during the removal of an illegal Madrasa and prayer site from Malik’s garden in Banbhoolpur, there was a commotion, stone-pelting, and arson. According to police sources, Abdul Malik, who is believed to be the Haldwani riots mastermind behind the unrest, has been arrested from Delhi.
Now, Abdul Malik is undergoing interrogation after being brought to Haldwani. Since Saturday, more than 75 troublemakers have been arrested by the police through raids conducted in various areas. Women have also been identified as troublemakers.
Initially, women were used as shields by the troublemakers, brought forward to chant slogans and even participate in sit-ins. As the stone-pelting commenced, they played an active role, prompting the police to work on identifying them.
Five individuals, including the brother of a Samajwadi Party leader, have been arrested so far. The sensitive area remains heavily guarded by police, paramilitary forces, and the Rapid Action Force. To prevent the situation from escalating further, the government has requested four additional companies of paramilitary forces from the center.
During the turmoil, troublemakers set fire to over 100 vehicles and the Banbhoolpur police station. Bullets were fired from both legal and illegal firearms. While the curfew has been relaxed in other parts of the city and internet services have been restored since Saturday night, administrative officials are closely monitoring the situation. Curfew remains in place in Banbhoolpur.
