In a tragic incident that shook the nation, a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir ‘s Kathua district resulted in the martyrdom of five brave soldiers, including one from Tehri district of Uttarakhand. On Monday, terrorists launched a grenade and fired indiscriminately at an army vehicle, killing five soldiers, including Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Adarsh Negi from Tehri. This heinous attack, carried out by three heavily armed terrorists who had recently infiltrated from across the border, has left the entire village of Adarsh Negi in mourning.
Adarsh Negi: A Braveheart from Tehri
Adarsh Negi, hailing from Thati Dagar village in Kirtinagar block, was only 26 years old. His father, Dalbir Singh, is a farmer. Adarsh completed his intermediate education at Government Inter College Piplidhar and joined the Garhwal Rifles in 2019 while pursuing a B.Sc. degree from Garhwal University. He was the youngest of three siblings, with his elder brother working in Chennai and his sister already married. The news of his martyrdom has devastated his family and the entire village. Martyrdom of Two Soldiers from Pauri Garhwal
Among the martyrs are Havildar Kamal Singh from Lansdowne and Rifleman Anuj Negi from Rikhanikhal in Pauri district. Both soldiers displayed exemplary bravery in the face of a surprise terrorist attack. Kamal Singh, a resident of Kartiya village, leaves behind two young daughters aged 5 and 3. Anuj Negi, who got married just last November, has left his family in deep sorrow. The entire region is mourning the loss of these two bravehearts, who laid down their lives for the motherland.

Anuj Negi’s sacrifice is particularly poignant as he had recently started a new chapter in his life with his marriage. His family, plunged into grief, is struggling to cope with the tragic loss. The community honors his bravery and dedication to the nation, as they rally to support his family in this difficult time.
Subedar Anand Singh Rawat from Rudraprayag
Another valiant soldier, Subedar Anand Singh Rawat from Kanda Bhardar village in Rudraprayag, was also martyred in the attack. The 41-year-old Subedar leaves behind his wife Vijaya Rawat and two sons, 16-year-old Manish and 13-year-old Anshul, who live in Dehradun. His mother and elder brother reside in their ancestral village. Anand Singh Rawat joined the army in 2001 and had dedicated his life to the service of the nation. His martyrdom has cast a shadow of grief over his family and the entire village.
Vinod Singh Bhandari from Dehradun
The youngest of the martyrs, 29-year-old Vinod Singh Bhandari, originally from Tehri, had relocated to Athurwala village in Dehradun eight years ago. Vinod, the only brother to his three sisters, was a devoted soldier and a proud father of a three-month-old daughter and a four-year-old son. His father, a retired soldier, takes solace in the fact that Vinod upheld the family tradition of serving the nation. Vinod’s sacrifice is a poignant reminder of the personal cost of national security.
Uttarakhand Mourns
The entire state of Uttarakhand is in mourning as the news of the martyrdom of these five brave soldiers spreads. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his deepest condolences and paid tribute to the fallen heroes. The bodies of the martyrs are being brought to Dehradun, from where they will be taken to their respective villages for their final rites.
These five soldiers from Uttarakhand—Adarsh Negi, Kamal Singh, Anuj Negi, Anand Singh Rawat, and Vinod Singh Bhandari—have laid down their lives in a supreme act of bravery and sacrifice. Their valor and dedication to protecting the nation will forever be remembered and honored. As we mourn their loss, we also salute their courage and commitment to the motherland.
