In a significant anti-militancy operation in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, the death toll has risen to eight, including six terrorists and two Indian soldiers. The twin encounters, which began on Saturday in two separate villages, have been ongoing, with security forces recovering two additional bodies on Sunday. The bodies of two terrorists were recovered from the Modergam encounter site, while four terrorists were found at the Chinnigam site.
Tragically, two army soldiers, including an elite Para Commando, lost their lives while battling the terrorists. The operations are still in progress as security forces continue their efforts to neutralize any remaining threats. Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain confirmed the deaths of the six terrorists in these encounters. Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, DGP Swain emphasized the importance of these operations, noting that they are crucial for strengthening the security environment in the region.
“These successes are crucial in fortifying the security environment,” Swain stated, highlighting the momentum gained by these ongoing operations. He also mentioned that there are reports of local terrorists being involved in these encounters. The first encounter took place in Modergam village, followed by another in the Frisal Chinnigam area of Kulgam district.
In a related development, the last rites of Army jawan Prabhakar Janjal, who was killed during the cordon and search operation in Frisal Chinnigam, will be held in his native village in Maharashtra’s Akola district on July 8. This tragic loss has added to the sorrow of the nation as it mourns the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The security forces’ efforts to combat terrorism in the region continue unabated, with the aim of bringing lasting peace and stability to Jammu and Kashmir.
