Recovery Operation in Imphal East in Manipur
In a significant security operation, the Manipur Police, in collaboration with central security forces, successfully recovered and diffused eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing around 33 kg in the Saichang Itham area of Imphal East district on Saturday. This prompt action averted a potential major tragedy in the region, according to an official familiar with the situation.
Ongoing Search Operations
The operation is part of ongoing search efforts in response to the ongoing crisis in Manipur. The combined team of Manipur Police and central forces continues to recover arms, ammunition, explosives, and other contraband on a near-daily basis, particularly in vulnerable areas across the state. The recovery of these explosives has significantly reduced the risk to farmers and cattle grazers in the Moirangpurel and Itham villages of Imphal East.
Recent Security Incidents
This operation follows a previous incident on April 13, where two Kuki militants were allegedly killed in a clash with security forces in Itham Moirangpurel, Imphal East. The confrontation began after the alleged Kuki militants launched an attack from Kamu Saichang towards the villages of Tumokhong and Itham Moirangpurel. Security forces recovered two firearms, including an AK-47 and a folding INSAS rifle, from the deceased militants.
The Indian Army, in a statement, credited specific intelligence inputs for the success of the operation. The expertise of the Bomb Disposal Team was instrumental in neutralizing the IEDs, which weighed approximately 33 kg. The army emphasized that this action dealt a severe blow to the plans of inimical elements aiming to carry out subversive activities in the region.
The recovery and neutralization of the IEDs highlight the ongoing efforts of security forces to maintain peace and stability in Manipur. The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence and swift action in preventing potential threats and ensuring the safety of local communities.
