The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on Thursday, dismissing any foul play or connection in the recent deaths of five Indian students in separate incidents in the United States. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided detailed insights into the circumstances surrounding these tragic events during a weekly briefing.
Jaiswal clarified that among the five deaths, two individuals were Indian nationals, while the remaining three were of Indian origin but held US nationality. He emphasized that there is no evidence suggesting any interconnectedness between these incidents, urging for each case to be assessed independently.
In the case of Vivek Saini, who was fatally attacked with a hammer by a homeless man inside a store in Lithonia, Jaiswal revealed that the perpetrator has been arrested, and local authorities are actively investigating the matter.
Regarding another incident at the University of Cincinnati, Jaiswal mentioned that preliminary reports indicate no foul play, although awaiting the medical report for further confirmation.
The MEA spokesperson reiterated the active collaboration between the MEA, local authorities, consulates, and missions to provide support to the affected families. He assured that efforts are underway to assist Mazir Ali, a Hyderabad resident who was recently attacked in Chicago, with medical aid and ensure his well-being. The Indian consulate in Chicago is closely monitoring the situation and providing necessary support to Ali and his family.
Amid concerns and speculations surrounding these incidents, the MEA appealed for a nuanced understanding, emphasizing that each case should be evaluated independently. Jaiswal urged stakeholders to recognize that there is no evidence suggesting interconnectedness among the events involving Indian students and individuals of Indian origin in the United States.
As investigations continue, the MEA remains committed to facilitating support and assistance to those affected while emphasizing the importance of conducting thorough and impartial assessments of each case.
