Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Sudarshan Setu, also known as the Signature Bridge, on Sunday. This landmark infrastructure project, situated in the Gulf of Kutch, connects mainland Gujarat with Bet Dwarka island off the Okha coast in Devbhumi Dwarka.
The Sudarshan Setu, India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, stretches over 4,772 meters, with a 900-meter-long cable-stayed section. Funded by the Union government at a cost of Rs 978 crore, the bridge marks Gujarat’s first sea-link project. Its construction aims to provide all-weather road connectivity to Bet Dwarka, enhancing transportation between the island and the mainland.
Supported by 32 piers and featuring seven cable-stayed spans, the bridge boasts a four-lane carriageway and walkways on either side adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna. Notably, solar panels form the roof of these walkways, adding a sustainable element to the project.
Constructed as part of National Highway 51, managed by the NH division of Gujarat’s roads and buildings department, Sudarshan Setu was executed by SP Singla Constructions Private Limited. The Panchkula-based firm gained attention last June due to the collapse of its under-construction Aguwani-Sultanganj Ganga bridge in Bihar.
