Pune Porsche Car Accident: Chargesheet Filed Against Seven People

'Was heavily drunk, hence...': What 17-year-old Pune Porsche crash accused told cops

Two months after a tragic Porsche car accident in Pune resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals, police have filed a comprehensive chargesheet against seven individuals. This includes the parents of the 17-year-old boy who was allegedly driving the car under the influence of alcohol.

Details of the Chargesheet:

The 900-page chargesheet was filed in a Pune court and lists the following accused:

  • Parents of the Minor: They are accused of involvement in attempting to cover up the incident.
  • Two Doctors from Sassoon General Hospital (Ajay Taware and Dr. Shrihari Halnor): Accused of participating in the cover-up.
  • A Staff Member from Sassoon General Hospital (Atul Ghatkamble): Accused of assisting in the cover-up.
  • Two Middlemen (Ashpak Makandar and Amar Gaikwad): Allegedly managed the financial transactions between the minor’s father and the doctors to facilitate the cover-up.

The chargesheet excludes the 17-year-old boy, as his case is being handled separately by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).

Incident Overview:

The accident occurred in the early hours of May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, Pune. The minor, allegedly driving the Porsche under the influence, struck two motorbike-riding software engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Both victims were flung into the air and landed on parked vehicles. One died on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries during treatment. Both victims hailed from Madhya Pradesh.

Cover-Up Allegations:

The chargesheet details an alleged attempt to swap the minor’s blood samples with his mother’s to avoid evidence of alcohol consumption. This conspiracy allegedly involved the minor’s parents, the two doctors, and the hospital staff member.

Legal Proceedings and Public Reaction:

Initially, the JJB granted bail to the minor with a condition to write a 300-word essay on road safety, sparking public outrage. Subsequently, police requested a review, and the JJB remanded the boy to an observation home. However, the Bombay High Court later deemed the remand illegal, and the minor was released after submitting the essay.

Current Status:

The chargesheet includes statements from 50 witnesses and further evidence obtained, including CCTV footage showing the teenager drinking at a pub before the accident. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with the Juvenile Justice Board separately handling the minor’s case.
