The recent violent attack on Indian student Syed Mazahir Ali in the US has once again highlighted the security concerns faced by Indian students studying abroad. Ali was brutally assaulted by four armed robbers near his home in Chicago, leaving him with severe injuries. A distressing video of Ali bleeding profusely circulated on social media, underscoring the harrowing experience he endured.
Sadly, Ali’s case is not an isolated incident. Several Indian students have encountered tragic fates in the US under mysterious circumstances, shedding light on the vulnerability of Indian students abroad. Vivek Saini, a 25-year-old Indian student, fell victim to a fatal assault by a drug addict at a convenience store in Georgia. Similarly, Shreyas Reddy Beniger, a 19-year-old student, was found dead in Ohio, with authorities ruling out foul play despite his untimely demise. Neel Acharya, another Indian student, was discovered deceased on the Purdue University campus after being reported missing by his mother. Additionally, the tragic deaths of Indian-American students Akul Dhawan and Sameer Kamath further underscore the grim reality faced by Indian students studying overseas.
These distressing incidents serve as a stark reminder of the need for enhanced security measures and support systems for Indian students abroad. The Indian government and relevant authorities must collaborate with international counterparts to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian students pursuing education overseas. Furthermore, it is imperative for Indian students and their families to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate risks while studying abroad. Only through concerted efforts and proactive measures can we strive towards creating a safer environment for Indian students pursuing their academic aspirations globally.
