Key Events and Arrests

In Mangalore, the police arrested five accused involved in the disturbances during the victory procession of Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin. The search for other suspects is ongoing.

After Qazi Nizamuddin’s victory, his supporters took out a procession late Sunday night without police permission. During the procession, stones were thrown at people’s houses, and supporters also clashed with the police. Videos of the police pleading with the crowd went viral on social media, prompting the police to search for the culprits.

Detailed Incident

On the day of voting, July 10, there was chaos in Libberhedi village during the by-election of the Mangalore Assembly. There were clashes in other places as well, including incidents of firing and harassment of women. On Saturday night, outside the house of BJP supporter Sudhir Chaudhary in Libberhedi village, some youths fired six to eight rounds. On Sunday, a peace meeting was held by the victims, and police officers assured them that there would be no further disturbances. However, the police did not take action against the accused, which led to further trouble on Sunday night.

Once again, a victory procession for Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin was taken out without the knowledge of the police. The crowd was so large that it was difficult to control. The crowd suddenly began pelting stones at some houses and shops. Although the police arrived at the scene, only two officers were unable to manage the crowd. The officers were seen pleading with the crowd and Qazi to maintain peace. Despite this, the crowd continued to push the police around. Tension remained high in the area late into the night. The victims of the stone-pelting went to the Mangalore police station to demand action against the perpetrators.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the region and the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing large, unplanned gatherings. The community remains on edge as authorities continue to search for those responsible and work to restore peace.
