On Saturday (17th January), the political landscape was abuzz with rumors suggesting a potential defection from the Congress party, with speculations centered around Nakul Kamal Nath, the son of former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath, possibly joining the BJP.
The speculation gained traction after Nakul Nath reportedly removed the Congress party name from his social media bio. This move coincided with remarks made by Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma, who claimed that several Congress leaders were disgruntled by the party’s decision to decline an invitation for the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha. Sharma implied that the BJP would welcome those disaffected by the Congress leadership, including Kamal Nath.
However, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh swiftly moved to dispel these rumors, labeling them as mere attempts at sensationalizing breaking news. Singh emphasized Kamal Nath’s longstanding association with the Nehru-Gandhi family, asserting that it would be inconceivable for him to sever ties with Sonia Gandhi and Indira Gandhi’s legacies.
Singh’s statement comes amidst internal discontent within the Congress party following its defeat in Madhya Pradesh. Many within the party and its ecosystem had criticized Kamal Nath, blaming him for the electoral setback. Allegations were leveled against him for deviating from the party’s leadership and adopting a stance of soft Hindutva, particularly evident in his participation in Hanumat Katha and the perceived neglect of key issues like the caste census.
As Nakul Nath and Kamal Nath reportedly traveled to New Delhi, speculation continues to swirl around their political future. The unfolding developments underscore the fluidity of Indian politics and the enduring intrigue surrounding party affiliations and alliances.
