A series of unfortunate incidents transpired during a cordon-and-search operation in Poonch district’s Dhera Ki Gali (DKG) area. The operation, initiated based on intelligence about the presence of terrorists, resulted in a tragic encounter with significant casualties.
The DKG area, situated between Chamrer and Bhata Dhurian forests, has been a hotspot for terrorist activities, as evidenced by previous attacks. The region’s dense forest cover poses a formidable challenge for security forces.
During the operation, terrorists launched an attack on an army truck and a Gypsy, leading to the unfortunate loss of four soldiers’ lives and serious injuries to three others. In the ensuing retaliation by the troops, an additional three soldiers lost their lives, and three sustained non-fatal injuries
In response to the incidents, reinforcements, including ambulances and personnel from 48 RR and 43 RR, have been swiftly deployed to the site. Public movement in the area has been restricted to facilitate the ongoing anti-terrorist operation.
The recent events underscore the persistent challenges faced by security forces in regions afflicted by terrorism, particularly in densely forested areas like DKG. The complexities of navigating such terrain and engaging with well-armed adversaries highlight the need for strategic adaptations in counter-terrorism efforts.
The DKG-Bufliaz region has witnessed previous attacks, emphasizing the entrenched nature of the security threat in the area. The recurrence of such incidents necessitates a comprehensive and sustained approach to counter-terrorism.
The tragic loss of lives in the recent cordon-and-search operation highlights the gravity of the security situation in the Dhera Ki Gali region. As the anti-terrorist operation unfolds, it is imperative for security forces to assess and recalibrate their strategies to effectively counter the persistent threat posed by terrorists in densely forested and challenging terrains.
