U.S. President Donald Trump launched a scathing critique of both Israel and Iran on Tuesday, expressing deep frustration over their failure to adhere to a ceasefire agreement brokered after 12 days of intense warfare in the Middle East. In his speech, he didn’t shy away from using the f word, adding a dramatic emphasis to Trump’s criticisms.
Speaking to reporters before departing for the NATO Summit in The Hague, Trump said bluntly, “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f**k they’re doing.” The President’s stark language underscored the volatility surrounding the newly declared truce, which was already fraying within hours of its announcement.
Trump’s Ceasefire Ultimatum
Taking to his Truth Social platform, Trump issued an all-caps command aimed squarely at Israel:
“ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”
The warning came after multiple explosions were reported in Tehran, in what appeared to be retaliatory Israeli strikes despite the agreement. Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly, urging restraint. However, Netanyahu reportedly responded that “some response was necessary” after Iranian missile attacks violated the ceasefire.
Despite the breaches, Trump later reassured global audiences that “nobody will be hurt, the ceasefire is in effect.” He added that Israeli fighter jets were ordered to “turn around and head home,” performing what he called a “friendly ‘Plane Wave’” as a symbolic gesture.
Ceasefire Terms and Fallout
The ceasefire—announced by Trump just hours earlier—was described as a carefully timed, phased cessation of hostilities:
- Start: Iran begins the ceasefire immediately.
- 12th Hour: Israel joins the ceasefire.
- 24th Hour: Official global recognition of the end of what Trump called “THE 12 DAY WAR.”
In his lengthy social media post, Trump congratulated both nations and claimed the ceasefire had “saved the Middle East” from prolonged destruction. He declared:
“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!”
Strong Words on Iran’s Nuclear Program
While urging calm, Trump remained firm on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “Tehran will never rebuild their nuclear facilities,” he said, reinforcing America’s red line on nuclear proliferation.
This came even as Axios reported backchannel efforts by Washington to ease tensions with Tehran, including a softening of oil sanctions to allow China to continue purchasing Iranian crude—a move seen as part of a broader realignment strategy.
Market and Geopolitical Reactions
Following the ceasefire, oil prices plunged nearly 4%, and global equity markets surged. Investors welcomed the de-escalation, which also led to resumed flights in the Gulf region. However, Trump’s harsh rhetoric and the shaky nature of the truce have left analysts warning of renewed volatility.
As the international community cautiously welcomes the ceasefire, questions remain: Can the agreement hold amid deep mistrust and mutual provocations?
