In a significant move, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, greenlit several schemes and decisions aimed at bolstering various sectors and addressing crucial issues. Among the key approvals are the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a substantial subsidy on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the upcoming kharif season, and the establishment of three semiconductor units in Gujarat and Assam.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, one crore families are set to benefit from 300 units of free electricity. The initiative not only aims to provide essential support to households but also promises to invigorate solar manufacturing and the supply chain, creating direct employment for approximately 17 lakh individuals. Each household will receive subsidies of ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system and ₹60,000 for a 2 kW system.

Additionally, the Cabinet announced a substantial subsidy of ₹24,420 crore on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the upcoming kharif season. This move ensures that farmers continue to have access to key nutrients like DAP at an affordable rate of ₹1,350 per quintal.

Moreover, the Cabinet sanctioned the establishment of three semiconductor units in Gujarat and Assam, with an estimated investment of ₹1.26 lakh crore. Tata Electronics Private Limited, in collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC) of Taiwan, will set up a semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, attracting an investment of ₹91,000 crore. Additionally, CG Power, in partnership with Renesas Electronics Corporation of Japan and Stars Microelectronics of Thailand, will establish a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the creation of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) to establish a global network for conserving tigers and other big cats. With a one-time budgetary support of ₹150 crore for a period of five years, the IBCA aims to bring together 96 big cat range countries and other stakeholders to form a common platform for conservation efforts.

These decisions underscore the government’s commitment to addressing critical issues, promoting sustainable development, and fostering innovation across various sectors, ultimately contributing to the nation’s growth and welfare.
