From the spiritual banks of the Ganga in Haridwar to the industrial lanes of Dehradun’s outskirts, Uttarakhand witnessed a disturbing mix of accidents, criminal negligence, and social misconduct today. These back-to-back incidents paint a grim picture of public safety, reckless behavior, and the need for stronger enforcement of law and order.
1. Haridwar Tragedy: Youth Drowns in Ganga Canal While Making Video
In a heartbreaking incident at Govindpuri Ganga Ghat, a 40-year-old man, Vikas, from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, drowned in the Ganga canal while bathing. What began as a casual outing with friends turned tragic when Vikas attempted to swim across after crossing the safety railing. While one friend recorded the moment on his phone, Vikas got swept away in the powerful current and disappeared within seconds.
His body was recovered the next day from Pathri Power House, and sent for postmortem. The chilling part: the entire incident was caught on camera.
2. Dehradun Horror: Birthday Celebration Turns Fatal for Three Friends
A night of celebration ended in tragedy on the Dehradun-Paonta National Highway, near Labour Chowk, Selakui, where a speeding scooter collided with a dumper truck. Three young men — Suraj (20), Anil Kashyap (24), and Mukesh Chauhan (25) — lost their lives in the crash. They were returning from a birthday party and were reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
According to CCTV footage, the scooter was being driven at high speed, leaving little chance for reaction. The impact was so severe that one died on the spot, while the other two succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Police have taken the dumper and scooter into custody, and legal proceedings are underway following complaints from the victims’ families.
3. Mystery in Gurukul: Three Children Go Missing from Dehradun Ashram
A case of missing minors has shaken the city’s educational and spiritual community. Three boys — Suraj (13), Vikas (13), and Shivam (10) — who had recently been admitted to the Vedic Sadhan Ashram Gurukul, Raipur, mysteriously went missing on June 13.
Brought from Chandigarh’s Bal Ashram, the children were reportedly unhappy and eager to return home. Despite reassurances, they disappeared just before summer break. Gurukul management claims to have contacted their guardian, Neeraj Koda, who refused to speak with the children. Police have now registered an FIR and launched a multi-team search operation involving Chandigarh authorities.
4. Haridwar Shame: Men Harass Female Biker on Highway, Record Goes Viral
In a deeply disturbing act that questions the very notion of Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods), a female biker riding on the national highway near Haridwar was sexually harassed by men in a van with Western UP and Haryana registration plates.
The men removed their clothes and made obscene gestures, following her for a distance. The victim recorded the video herself and shared it online, calling out the filth happening in a holy land.
Shockingly, no formal FIR has been registered yet, although police claim they are analyzing the footage for leads. The viral nature of the video has stirred outrage and brought renewed focus on women’s safety on public roads.
Conclusion: A Day of Loss and Shame for Uttarakhand
These incidents reflect a growing concern in Uttarakhand—where natural beauty and spiritual sanctity are being overshadowed by recklessness, crime, and apathy.
- Lives lost in water and on roads due to poor caution.
- Children disappearing from religious institutions.
- Women being harassed in broad daylight on public roads.
The need for better surveillance, strict policing, and social awareness is urgent. If Uttarakhand is to preserve its image as a peaceful, sacred, and progressive state, these episodes cannot be treated as isolated events. They must be seen as wake-up calls.
