Uttarakhand is in mourning as it receives the sad news of the martyrdom of Army Rifleman Shailendra Singh Kathait. Hailing from Kumrada village in Uttarkashi, Shailendra Singh made the ultimate sacrifice while posted on duty at the India-China border in Niti Valley.
Rifleman Shailendra Singh Kathait served in the Garhwal Scout, and his untimely demise has cast a pall of grief over his village and the surrounding area. The entire community mourns the loss of a brave soldier who gave his life in service to the nation. Shailendra Singh’s mortal remains will be brought to his village on Wednesday, where his final rites will be performed with military honors at the ancestral ghat.
Shailendra Singh Kathait was stationed at the Goldung Post in Niti Valley, engaged in patrolling duties with his comrades when tragedy struck. He faced adverse weather conditions, succumbing to the harsh elements while on duty. The brave Rifleman, the only son of his family, leaves behind two younger sisters. Sadly, his father, Kripal Singh Kathait, had passed away just two months ago, and Shailendra had returned to duty after performing the last rites.
This poignant loss is not just felt by his family but reverberates through the entire community. Shailendra Singh’s dedication to duty and sacrifice for the nation will be remembered with deep gratitude. His wife Anju and mother Dhyan Dei, devastated by the news, join the nation in mourning the loss of a true hero.
