The Mamata Banerjee-led government has tabled the Aparajita Bill in the West Bengal Assembly today. This bill seeks more stringent punishment for rapists — a death penalty in cases where the victim dies due to the assault or is forced to live in a vegetative state. However, for the legislation to be enforced, it needs presidential assent
